Autumn Hair Reset: Is Your Hair Ready for the New Season?

Louise Shailer • September 28, 2026

Summer may be over, but your hair can often tell the story long after your holiday tan has faded.

Summer can be wonderful for us, but not always quite so wonderful for our hair.

UV exposure, chlorine, salt water and heat can all affect the condition and appearance of the hair. Add holidays, heated styling and perhaps stretching a little longer between salon appointments, and by early autumn your hair may feel noticeably different.

Some of the most common things we notice in the salon at this time of year are:

  • Hair feeling dry or rough
  • Colour looking faded or dull
  • Blonde becoming warmer or less bright
  • Ends becoming dry or split
  • Increased frizz
  • Hair feeling harder to style
  • A lack of softness and shine

The good news is that you don't necessarily need a dramatic change. Often, a few carefully chosen tweaks are enough to get your hair looking and feeling beautiful again.

Start with the condition

Before thinking about a new colour or style, we always like to look at the condition of the hair.

If your hair feels dry, brittle or lacks shine, an in-salon treatment can be a lovely place to start.

At Salon Cabelo, we have different treatments depending on what your hair needs. Botanical Repair is ideal when strengthening is the priority, while Nutriplenish is designed for hair that needs an intensive boost of hydration.

There isn't one treatment that's right for everyone, which is why we'll always recommend according to your individual hair.

Sometimes that extra bit of care is all that's needed to bring softness, movement and shine back into the hair.

Refresh your colour without necessarily starting again

Autumn doesn't mean you suddenly have to go dark.

If you love your summer blonde, you might simply need to refresh the tone and bring the shine back. A gloss or toner can make an enormous difference to colour that's started to look tired.

Alternatively, autumn can be a lovely time to introduce a little more depth and dimension.

That might mean warmer tones, richer brunettes, softer blondes or simply working with your existing colour to make it feel fresh again.

Our approach is always personalised. It's about finding a colour that suits you, rather than changing your hair simply because the season has changed

Don't forget your haircut

Sometimes the best reset is also the simplest.

If your ends have been through sunshine, swimming and plenty of styling over the summer, a good trim can instantly make your hair feel healthier and easier to manage.

Removing dry or split ends can improve the overall shape of your haircut and often makes styling at home much easier too.

And if you've been thinking about changing your style, autumn can be the perfect opportunity for a fresh start.

Struggling with frizz and manageability?

If the problem goes beyond a little summer dryness and you're spending a lot of time trying to smooth or straighten your hair, this is also a good time to think about whether a professional smoothing treatment could help.

Our FABRiQ Reset treatment is designed to smooth, strengthen and improve the manageability of the hair.

For the right guest, it can mean less time fighting with frizz, easier blow drying and hair that feels smoother and more manageable day to day.

It's not something everybody needs, which is why we'd always recommend having a consultation first. We can look at your hair, discuss how you currently manage it and decide whether FABRiQ - or something much simpler - would give you the result you're looking for.

Look at your home haircare too

Your salon appointment is only one part of maintaining healthy hair.

As we move into autumn, it's worth checking whether the products you're using at home are still right for your hair.

Hair that has become drier over summer may benefit from more hydration. Hair that's been lightened may need additional strengthening, while fine hair can become weighed down if we simply reach for the richest products we can find.

Your stylist can help you build a simple routine around what your hair actually needs — you don't need a bathroom cabinet full of products.

Your autumn hair checklist

Ask yourself:

Does my hair feel dry or rough?
It might be time for some extra hydration or an in-salon treatment.

Has my colour lost its shine?
A gloss, toner or colour refresh could be enough.

Are my ends looking tired?
Book your next cut rather than waiting until they're difficult to manage.

Am I constantly battling frizz?
Let's look at why it's happening and whether your homecare, styling routine or a professional smoothing treatment could help.

Does my hair just not feel quite right?
Talk to us. Sometimes the solution is much simpler than you think.

A fresh start for your hair

An autumn hair reset doesn't have to mean a complete transformation.

It can be as simple as a trim, refreshing your colour, changing your homecare or giving your hair the treatment it's been asking for.

The important thing is choosing what's right for your hair.

If you're not sure where to start, book your usual appointment or get in touch to arrange a complimentary consultation. We'll take a look at your hair, listen to what you'd like to achieve and help you decide what it needs for the season ahead.

To arrange a consultation, please 📞Call, 💌 email, or 💬 message the salon.
